This album contains a set of three experimental electroacoustic pieces written between 2016 to 2019 in fulfillment of the requirements for my Bachelor's Degree in Composition with supervision by Professor Flo Menezes at the Studio PANaroma (São Paulo State University - UNESP).
Originally meant to be played by a 16-channel audio system in a prepared listening room, this is the stereo mix and my attempt to make them accessible and publicly available.
Drawing with sounds in the acoustic space is one of the purposes of electroacoustic music but it can also evoke a narrative using only its timbres and sound transformation. Although the idea of telling a story through a piece is already well-known and common to our culture, doing it with only noise and timbre transformation can teach us a different way of listening to music.
Each song has its own course, story, and particularity but they are connected in their narratives.
Warp was the first to be composed and was heavily influenced by my background in making game audio, so all the sound design work goes in this way somehow. The acoustic space created is inspired by an image of a universe folding, looping from its extremities, and it was essential to ambient the track and its sound aesthetic. When it folds, it creates glitches and the simulation may not work as expected.
Solo Arame was the second to be produced with less proximity to the game audio sonority and evocates an organic touch of an odd Martian nature being discovered by the listener, which I liked to imagine that they sense this place as seed growing through time.
Colapso was my final work for this class and was produced by the experimentation of generating images through audio input. The idea evolved to a state where audio was also conducted by the floating, shapeless image element presented in the video, giving shape to the song's structure. I like to think that this was a good balance between my heavily image-inspired daily work and the electroacoustic aesthetic (that can sound super different sometimes). Developing the ambiance for this piece while creating the art for the video was definitely something that drove me to different musical choices and it was interesting to see the final result.
Listening with headphones is highly recommended!
